Thinking of ideas to write about tonight I went down to the river. At least I could take a picture and post it, I thought. We’ve had persistent rain all day, but it seemed to brighten up with that strange evening light. The river often looks stunning in the evening. If I had the time to detour to do this every day, I’d take a picture to record the changes through the year. Well, two pictures actually – one at dawn, one at dusk.
The river is in flood at the moment. The wide river is wider still, lapping over the trails, filling the basements in riverside homes. Tonight, I have a smaller problem, the night that I need a great picture, it’s covered in mist and fog.
Yet even in the few moments I’m there the stillness is calming, even as I giggle to myself about the fog. I’m grateful that though we live away from the coast, we have this water nearby. There’s something about expanses of water that do me good.
“He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.”
